St. John's Wort is a favorite herbs. It has been used to treat depression and anxiety with great success. It is known as a mood enhancement herb because it affects the levels of certain chemicals in the brain to maintain a positive outlook. It takes about three to four weeks to notice the full effects of this herb. you need to avoid the sun while taking St. John's Wort as you will sun burn easily.
Valerian is an herb that is used for insomnia. It relaxes muscles and helps you to relax so you can get to sleep. It should be taken about half an hour before bedtime. This herb is not intended for long term use because it can cause headaches, restlessness and can cause serious heart problems. You should not consume alcohol while taking this herb. This herb can be taken in tablet or capsule form or made into a tea. This herb must be stored in a dark container away from light.
Herbs, just like any other medication must be used as directed or they can be very dangerous. Read the label carefully and take only as directed or talk to your family doctor.
