Menopause Article

Menopause refers to the time in a woman's life when she stops menstruating. The changes that occur during menopause do not happen all at one time. The period before menopause is called perimenopause. During perimenopause the body begins making less of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. These changes usually begin between the ages of 45 and 55 and may include symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings and sporadic menstrual cycles. The average age menopause begins is 51.

Menopause is a time of great change that is sometimes associated only with frustrating symptoms and health problems, however, there are many lifestyle changes that can lessen the negative side effects of menopause. It is important to contact your doctor when you begin menopause.
